Deletating Root and Audit Activities on UNIX/Linux SystemsBy Edward Blunt, CISA
This article discusses how to delegate root authority on UNIX/Linux systems and how to effectively audit all the activities carried out on those systems. It describes the relevance of doing this with regard to allowing the separation of duties within a UNIX/Linux environment, and shows which levels of control are satisfied by this. In addition, it explains the importance of this with regard to the US Sarbanes-Oxley Act requirements for stringent controls over data held electronically, with a particular emphasis on the UNIX and Linux environments.
